CPAP/BIPAP Hygiene Is Important As Personal Hygiene

We never challenge the importance of personal hygiene. We know our quality of health is negatively impacted if we have poor personal hygiene. We know that keeping our bodies clean helps prevent illness and infection from bacteria or viruses.

The same is also true about your CPAP machine and supplies. Most people don’t realize the importance of maintaining their CPAP/BIPAP mask, filters, hoses, and humidifier chamber. Failure to properly maintain these can have a serious impact on your quality of sleep, comfort, and create adverse side effects to your sleep apnea therapy. Proper upkeep of your CPAP machine and supplies is necessary to ensure the device is effectively treating your sleep apnea. According to Phoebe Ochman, director of Communications for Sleep Apnea Treatment Centers of America, it is vital to keep all your CPAP supplies as clean as possible. CPAP hoses, tubing and masks can be a prime breeding ground for bacteria and mold.
